Long distance running has been my personal therapy! For many months, I’ve reflected on the things I’ve learned from lacing up my running shoes and racking up the miles (206 miles and counting). My therapist and I dissect the running and come up w/ analogies on how this has helped me heal and move forward by making decisions to empower myself. Recently I came across a running T-shirt that encompasses a lot of my life lessons from running.
Everything I need to know about life, I’ve learned from RUNNING:
- Spring mornings are something to be treasured.
- Though you can do it alone, through the long haul it is nice to have someone by your side
- The right equipment makes all the difference (especially running shoes and socks)
- Masseuses make great friends
- Playing it smart pays off in the end
- Rest is as important as work (and play)
- All it takes is all you’ve got
- Pain lets you know you’re still alive (and very human)
- The harder I work, the luckier I get
- The right music sets the mood
- Water is good
- Carbs are NOT bad
- Nothing takes the place of persistence
- There’s no drug like adrenaline
- It never gets easier, you just like it more
- Endurance is as much mind as body
- There are no shortcuts to success (and I seem to take the longer route)
- There are lots of bad drivers out there (esp in Orange County)
- If you overdo it, you’ll get hurt
- Push through the wall, it’s easier on the other side
- There is no finish line
