Happy Fourth of July Weekend!! ... It’s hard to believe that we’re already in July and celebrating our nations birthday. My childhood memories of July 4th include stuffing my face with seedless watermelon and lighting Phantom fireworks with my siblings and cousins. My childhood was filled with family gatherings and feasts. Now that we’re all grown up (most w/ family), those days only come once a year during the holiday season at the end of the year. SOOO, this 4th of July weekend I’m looking forward to a 10 mile run, some World Cup Soccer madness, hanging out w/ friends and just having some summer fun!
This past week I’ve been struggling with engaging myself in my runs and workouts. It just feels like I’m in a training rut. Monday was a bust when I attempted a leg workout at the gym and could only think about Popeye’s fried chicken. So I half-assed the workout, picked up some crispy fried chicken, and went home to indulge in the gluttony of fast foods and lust of reality TV - The Bachelorette. The guilt from Monday night hovered over my head on Tuesday so I picked it up a few notches. After work I went for one of my best 4 mile run at an 8:45 minute mile pace, then followed it up w/ an hour of boot camp yoga at the gym ... What was I thinking?! My mind was determined to rock this workout and get out of the rut, but my body quickly reminded me afterward that I’m no longer 20 y/o. Haha! To top off the intense Tuesday workout, I woke up early on Wednesday to go running w/ Brian! We planned this in advance and I didn’t want to bail on him. The run at the beach was mediocre and my body was feeling 30 :) With Brian running at least a football field ahead of me and my legs feeling a little heavy, I ignored the fact that I was scheduled to run intervals and just skipped the speed training aspect all together. The last two days I’ve given my body the much needed rest and I’m getting psyched to run a 10 miler tomorrow. This will be my longest distance since the half marathon, and I hope the recovery is quick so I can enjoy the 4th of July festivities.
