Carbo Loading and Yoga!

This is the last week leading up to the NWM, and w/ each day that draws closer I get more and more excited! After months of training, I’m ready to run this race regardless if I have to hobble across the finish line. My goal and hopes are to run a healthy race, enjoy the event, and cross the finish line standing on two feet. There are underlying nerves of doubt and fears of the San Francisco hilly course, but I’m trying not to psyche myself out too much and live in the moment of excitement – anything is possible!

Raising money for Make Cures Happen LLS has been a driving force in my excitement. I’m sooooooo close to my fund raising goal, and still very hopeful to make it to $1000. With each donation (big or small), I feel a surge of energy knowing that I am running for a huge cause w/ the support of friends and family.

In this last week of training, the running has tapered off to a 10 mile long run last night and a 6 mile run later this week w/ a yoga class thrown into the mix. The last words from my massage therapist Eric were “do some yoga!” Haha! Aside from the light workout schedule, I’m eating healthier this week and filling up w/ tons of fluids. Normally I eat fairly healthy, but my guilty pleasures are French fries, Popeye’s fried chicken, and ice cream! Yum! Just thinking about them, makes my mouth water. :) ... This week I decided to cut out all fried foods and load up of the fruits, veggies, and whole grain. I’m hoping to keep my GI system light and load it up w/ carbs later this week. It's recommended that the carbo loading meals are 36 -72 hours before the big race. Looks like I'm having carbs both Thursday and Friday! … Even though I have no clue how I’m going to get from the finish line back to my hotel room, I know for a fact I will be stopping somewhere along the way for some French fries!

This will most likely be my last blog entry before the marathon. Recollecting back to when I started blogging this past February – I’ve come a LONG way! Long distance running has helped transform my mind, body, and spirit. It has helped me conquer my “redemption” AND let go of the emotional weight from heart break to find forgiveness. Pounding the pavement has healed me and made me stronger ... NWM ready or not, here I come!
