Winter Mornings

It's beginning to feel a lot like a California winter ... After weeks of fluctuating temperature spikes into the 90's, the change in weather is more than welcome. The cold foggy mornings and brisk air remind me of my days living in Providence and waking up early to be at the hospital by 7 am. Back then I was required to be somewhere at 7 am, these days I struggle w/ the idea of waking up and dragging myself out of the warm comforts of my bed to get a morning run in before work. My success rate hasn't been great this month b/c the snooze button seems to win 3 out of 5 days. Haha! My main excuse: I'm giving myself a month off since the NWM. I figured, it's a little break before I start the real training for my next full marathon in March.

With the upcoming Las Vegas Rock n' Roll half marathon about 12 days away, I'm shooting to just enjoy this race and have FUN! It's time to conquer the Strip and run like a goddess! No PR goals set to beat or time expectations - well, maybe something respectable around the 2 hour mark?! This is my first Rock n' Roll race from the running series, and I signed up w/ the intention to keep myself on a running track and not loose momentum in running mileage. My main concern w/ this race is running in the freezing cold. The average temperature at the start of the race is in the low 30's. I don't think I've ran in this temperature - EVER! But never say never, right? ... I've invested in some long dry fit running tights and tested them out this morning. Not sure how I like them yet b/c I was running in the low 50's and my body heated up by mile 2. The running tights and long sleeve dry was a little too much. I'm a minimalist when I run and don't like carrying or wearing more than I need to on me. That's the glory of running ... it's just me and the pavement.
